Spirit Touch Meditation

1. Sit quietly during your meditation. You may want to go to your inner sanctuary, to create a peaceful state of mind. When your mind has quieted and you are relaxed, ask to become aware of the touch of your closest spiritual guardian.

2. Be still and notice any distinct or subtle sensations on or around your body. You might feel as though there is a hair tickling against your face, when there is no hair to be found. You might feel something as slight as a light tingling sensation on your skin, or something as intense as a pouring rush of energy surge over you. You might feel a tickle on your nose. Each person will have a unique way of sensing energy. No matter what you are feeling, you should never feel anything painful or overwhelming. If this should ever be the case, stop your activity at once. Be still and notice any distinct or subtle sensations on or around your body.

3. When you notice a sensation, but are not necessarily sure that it is the touch of spirit, as opposed to your own imagination, ask that the sensation be repeated. For validation, souls may touch us at our will, at least initially, until we can attribute the specific sensation to the soul who is creating it.

We should pay close attention to the intuitive impressions we receive as we feel spiritual energy in our bodies. This will help us to understand who is with us at the crucial moments in our lives. If we cannot feel anything at first, our ability to feel and work with the energy consciously will grow as our meditation skills improve and our overall sensitivity increases. Once we do become aware of spirit touch, we can recognize it as a meaningful validation of the presence of our spiritual companions.

Inspirational Writing

Everything leads us to believe that there is a certain state of mind from which life and death, the real and the imaginary, past and future, the communicable and the incommunicable, height and depth are no longer perceived as contradictory.

—André Breton, Second Manifesto of Surrealism ( 1929 )

The stream of consciousness that flows through palm and pen can carry us on a beautiful journey. Poets and writers have long known the beauty and truth that illuminate our inspirational hours. In the moments when the words come together with a life of their own, when the story writes itself, the spirit speaks through us. We are the instruments. Language is our medium.

The idea that we can access superconscious information through writing is not a new one. Inspirational writing has been influential in psychology and parapsychology as well as the arts, specifically in the surrealist movement. This kind of writing embraces the absence of all critical intervention during the creative process. We let the words flow, much as we allow our intuition to flow, without judgment and without attachment to the outcome. It is not surprising that surrealist writers sometimes refer to themselves as “medium-poets”; the idea of the medium-poet unifies the creative and metaphysical processes.
